Redken was founded by the successful actress, model: Paula Kent. Due to frequent bleaching of Paula's hair, she soon had to contend with thin hair and a sensitive scalp. No one could offer her a solution and that is why Paula started Redken together with her hairdresser Jheri Redding (that's how the name Redken originated) in 1960. The first three products were launched with a focus on low pH and protein technologies (as the hair consists mainly of proteins). The brand is launched in 13 countries in 1980. Today, Redken is one of the leading and progressive brands for hair products.
